Abhyanga
The Abhyanga massage is part of Ayurvedic medicine. ” Abhyanga “means, literally, oil massage of the entire body. This traditional holistic massage from India is specifically recommended in the therapeutic system, Ayurveda , for an overall improvement in the health and well-being.
Indeed, the Abhyanga is the most direct way to harmonize the body’s vital energy, because the abhyanga implements not only various manual techniques but also the properties of different oils, plants or flavorings used throughout the massage.
Svedan
Svedan is sudation or sweating and is given every day immediately following the Ayurvedic Snehan. An herbal concoction may be added to the steam to further loosen the toxins from the individual.
Dr. Suraj explains that Svedan liquefies the toxins and increases the movement of toxins into the gastro-intestinal tract. After three to seven days of Snehan and Svedan, the doshas become well ripened and then ready to exit out of the body from their residing centre.
Antar Snehan
Antar Snehan comprises taking prescribed amounts of warm, herbalized ghee that is called tikta ghrita, the very first thing in the morning and again in late afternoon on an empty stomach.
With time, Ayurvedic physician eventually increases the prescribed dosage on the basis of the strength of the patient`s digestive agni. The patient is advised not to eat until the ghee is digested that is signalled by the return of appetit
Virechana
Virechana is one therapy of Panchkarma means five actions which removes toxins from inside the body thus is known as Internal Oleation too Virechana is done to remove Pitta issues in the body. All toxins or ama is to be removed which is generally present in the small intestine,By virechana it discharges all toxins out of body. It purifies Pitta function removes errors and strengthens all metabolic processes.
It is hence most good in diseases like hyperacidity, colitis, acid peptic disease, hemorrhoids, chronic headaches, migraine, malabsorption, diabetes, allergies and skin diseases It is also very useful for the following skin diseases like acne, dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, leprosy, and leucoderma.
Basti
Vata’s predominant site is the colon. Ayurvedic basti involves the introduction into the rectum of herbal concoctions of sesame oil, and certain herbal preparations in a liquid medium. Basti, is the most effective treatment of vata disorders, although many enemas over a prescribed period of time are usually required.
It relieves constipation, distention, chronic fever, cold, sexual disorders, kidney stones, heart pain, backache, sciatica and other pains in the joints. Many other vata disorders such as arthritis, rheumatism, gout, muscle spasms and headaches may also be treated with basti.
Shirodhara
Shirodhara is a purifying and rejuvenating therapy designed to eliminate toxins and mental exhaustion as well as relieve stress and any ill effects on the central nervous system. Shirodhara is a unique form of ancient therapy of pouring oil on the forehead from a specific height and for a specific period continuously and rythmatically allowing the oil to run through the scalp and into the hair. This is a subtype of Murdha taila which means keeping the medicated oil on the head region.
The types of Murdha taila other than Shirodhara are Shiro Abhyanga, Pichu And Shiro Basti. So the concept of shirodhara is mainly concerned with the application of oil though the other liquids are also used for the therapy but they are associated with specific clinical conditions.
